BPC-157

A 15-amino-acid peptide linked to the movement and organization of cells involved in tissue repair.

BPC-157 stands for Body Protection Compound 157. Laboratory work connects it with signals that help connective-tissue cells attach, move, and organize. These processes are part of how tissue responds to injury.

How it works.

FAK–paxillin signaling
In tendon fibroblast experiments, BPC-157 increased activation of these proteins involved in cell adhesion and movement.
Cell migration
Tendon fibroblasts exposed to BPC-157 moved more readily through their surroundings in culture.
Tendon outgrowth
Tendon tissue explants exposed to BPC-157 showed increased outgrowth of cells.

Human report · retrospective knee-pain series

Reported relief from knee pain.

In a 2021 phone follow-up, 11 of 12 people who received BPC-157 alone into the knee joint reported improvement in pain. Most follow-ups took place six to twelve months after treatment. This was a small chart review without a comparison group.

Risks, concerns & drawbacks.

Side-effect information
A separate two-person intravenous pilot reported no side effects during three days of checks. That small sample leaves uncommon reactions and repeated-use effects poorly characterized.
Pain relief & tissue repair
The knee report measured recalled pain relief. It did not use follow-up scans to measure tendon, ligament, or cartilage repair.
